If you found a stray cat or kitten, or need to surrender your own animal, here is what to do

As a no kill facility, we are frequently packed full. The only way we "make room" for a new cat, is by finding the perfect forever home to one of the homeless pets alreay in our care. We ask people to contact rescues BEFORE bringing animals to them. If we tell you we're full are full, it's because we are full to capacity. No Kill shelters cannot "make" room to house new animals. We are well beyond our capacity, housing cats in all our available kennels and our offices, boardroom and spare bathrooms, with all our foster homes also being full as well.

Winnipeg Lost Cat Alert, D'arcy's A.R.C., say the numbers of kittens 'thrown away like garbage' aren't going down

As the weather warms, Winnipeg Lost Cat Alert (WLCA) is warning Winnipeggers to look out for kittens on the street.

“Every year, when the weather gets warmer outside, uncaring and misguided people start dumping kittens they figure are old enough to be out on their own,” the group posted on its Facebook page.

A Message from D'Arcy

DArcyandDArnoldDevice2015 was an interesting year, but one I do not want to repeat. I took ill in May and my doctor discovered a fast growing tumour in my large intestine, which also contained a small amount of cancer cells. The mass was intrusive enough that it was removed along with most of my large intestine the following day.

I spent two weeks in the hospital and in June I started chemotherapy. Chemo was not fun and I became quite ill from this treatment. But after surviving 12 rounds of chemo, I was cancer free!

A Message from D'Arcy

DArcyandDArnoldDevice

I am back to work full-time and again I am thankful to my staff and volunteers who looked after the shelter while I was recovering from colon cancer.

My experience with cancer has caused me to have a slightly different outlook on how I want to do things with the shelter and in my own life. I think the major change in shelter life is to just slow down and work a little smarter without exhausting yourself all the time.

Meet the A.R.C's newest permanent resident

DArnold3In October 2015, we took in D’Arnold from the Provincial Vet. He had been hit by a car and his right front leg was severely damaged. His previous owners felt he did not need vet care and after 5 days, the province stepped in and removed the dog from the property.

As an extreme cold warning sweeps Winnipeg, the city's animals with no place to live are desperately trying to keep warm.

For many, that means compromising safety without knowing it. Within one month, Winnipeg animal rescue centre D'Arcy's A.R.C. has taken in three cats, including Stitch and Gunther, who were left with serious injuries after they tried to save themselves from the cold.

resqwalkjanuary

In January we get and extra dollar for every new subscriber to walks at least once for us. Tell your friends, grab your dog, and head for a walk! resQwalk is a mobile app that enables you to raise money for homeless animals and earn prizes every time you go for a walk.

In our first week on the app, supporters walked 314km for D'Arcy's ARC. The more you walk, the more we raise, so grab your dog (or just yourself) and head for a walk using the app. Heck, grab a friend and double up the kilometers! Share your walk on Facebook or Twitter and let others know how easy it can be to help make a difference in the life of a homeless pet.
