Join Our Team: Volunteer Social Media Content Creator

3–5 hours per week | Volunteer | Potential paid opportunity

We’re looking for a creative, chronically online person to help us show off the animals in our care and give people a better look at life at the shelter.

You’ll work alongside our Marketing Manager to create photo and video content for Instagram and Facebook. The goal is simple: create content that gets people to stop scrolling, fall in love with our animals, and learn more about D’Arcy’s Animal Rescue Centre.

And yes, you’ll get to spend some of your volunteer time with cats and dogs.

What you’ll do

  • Work with the Marketing Manager to plan and create social media content featuring adoptable animals and shelter life.
  • Take photos and videos that capture the personalities of our animals and the people who care for them.
  • Create content for Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, with a target of 2-4 posts per week.
  • Keep an eye on current social media trends and bring new ideas to the table.
  • Be comfortable occasionally getting in front of the camera yourself.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Manager and take feedback well.

You won’t need to worry about scheduling posts, managing the accounts, or digging through analytics, that’s the Marketing Manager’s job. Your focus is creating great content.

What you bring

  • A diploma, certificate, or degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related field is an asset.
  • Experience creating and publishing content on Instagram and Facebook.
  • A good sense of what works on social media right now, and an interest in keeping up with trends.
  • Comfort handling cats and dogs, including animals you’ve never met before.
  • Video and photo editing skills.
  • Experience with Canva.
  • An understanding of branding and how to keep content looking and feeling consistent.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Comfortable being on camera and asking others to participate when needed.
  • Open to feedback and willing to try new things.
  • Most importantly, you’re reliable, creative, and genuinely excited about helping shelter animals find homes.

What’s in it for you?

You’ll get hands-on experience creating real content for a meaningful cause, build out your portfolio, and have plenty of opportunities to get creative.

There is also potential for this to become a paid role for the right person after a period of demonstrated commitment and consistent, high-quality work.

If you love Reels and Tik Toks, have a creative eye and sense of humour, and think spending time with adorable adoptables sounds like a pretty good deal, we’d love to hear from you.

To apply: Send your cover letter, resume, and a few examples of your work to Ava Jerao, Marketing Manager, at community@darcysarc.ca before Sunday, August 23, 2026 at 5pm.
