Start with these steps:

  1. Call Winnipeg Animal Services (311) and report your pet missing
    • Check recent intakes on their website
  2. Contact the Winnipeg Humane Society, 204-982-2021
  3. Post on Winnipeg Lost Dog Alert or Winnipeg Lost Cat Alert pages on Facebook
  4. Notify neighbours and put up posters with a clear photo
  5. Visit local shelters, including D’Arcy’s Animal Rescue Centre, in person

Tip: Microchips and tattoos greatly increase the chances of being reunited. Make sure your contact info is up to date.

  • Check for ID such as tags or tattoos
  • Contact a vet clinic to scan for a microchip

In Winnipeg, your first call should be Winnipeg Animal Services (311). This helps avoid confusion for owners searching for their pet.

If Animal Services is not an option, contact a rescue like D’Arcy’s ARC to book an intake appointment.

Please do not arrive unannounced, as space is limited.

Important: Note the exact location where the animal was found.

If kittens are too young to eat on their own, they will need a milk replacer.

Feral cats are a common issue across Manitoba. You have a couple of options:

Option 1: Coexist Responsibly

  • Use breakaway collars with bells to protect wildlife
  • Have cats spayed or neutered using humane traps
  • Work with a vet or low-cost clinic
  • Provide shelter in winter if you choose to care for them

Option 2: Discourage Them From Staying

  • Do not feed them
  • Remove food sources from your property
  • Provide water if you choose, but avoid encouraging long-term stay
  • Use humane traps only if you have a clear plan in place

Planning ahead is key. Many rescues are at capacity and may not be able to take in feral cats.
